The dog has a name, and it is Fierce Warrior Dog Who Defends His New Home. Samson for short.
After perusing my choices from Flea, Cyndi, and Dogster, I eliminated all the tv ones, the movie ones, the ones I would regret because the vet would NEVER be able to pronounce it correctly, and went with Cyndi’s suggestion of Samson. “But wait!” you say! Samson was a movie! Ah, yes, grasshopper, but he was a real person first! Without going into great detail, when I heard it, the light bulb dinged. Flea’s suggestion of Bailey was good, too, but I had already settled on Samson when I saw her comment.
I am apparently a dog owner again.
If someone popped up and said they’d take him, I’d let them in a heartbeat, but the truth is I am getting a little attached. I needed that to not feel guilty about having another mouth to feed and another butt that needs shots and such, cuz really, it’s getting ridiculous around here. My friends are even joking about the signs that must be up, and the codes the animals must be using to point their sick and hungry pals to my house. “Hey, go down the road there and thru that hole in the fence. There is a sucker in that big gray house on the corner.”
We played fetch with a new toy last night, and he caught on really quickly. Last night before I went to bed, I peeked quietly out a back window to see if Samson (who as of this moment, has not heard his new name) was enjoying his fluffy new bed. I had squished a huge dog bed into his doghouse so he could be cozy and snug, and he was absolutely swallowed. But as I peeked, he came rolling out (the pillow is REALLY HUGE) and trotted to the edge of the porch and let out a little *grrhuff* at something only he could see and hear. Satisfied it had heeded his warning, he crawled back into his bed and went to sleep. Simple, yes, but it won me. It totally did.
I think I might even borrow it… GrrrHUFF.
Heh.
Awww! You have a baby who will protect you! And Samson is PERFECT. Congratulations. It’s like having a passel of girls, then giving birth to a boy. Enjoy your baby. 🙂
